*It should be noted that rats sold from pet stores are commonly poorly socialized and serve as nothing more than snake food in the employee's eyes. Many times these rats are rarely handled and have poor nutrition available to them. It is strongly recommended to purchase a rat from an established breeder to avoid malnutrition and poor socialization.
EDIT: I have found that some Petsmart stores sell their rats only as pets and do make steps toward socializing them.
